>> Net-etiquette

The following points are things which are considered to be proper manners on the Internet. If you blatantly violate one of these rules of decorum, you will receive many complaints directly through e-mail and in the newsgroup. This is what is referred to as "flaming". Some rules are more obvious than others....

  • Never forget that the person on the other side is human.
  • Read all follow-ups, and don't repeat what has already been said.
  • Use e-mail (don't post a followup) for topics with limited interest.
  • Use descriptive titles.
  • Limit line length and avoid control characters.
  • Be careful what you say about others.
  • Summarize what you are replying to.
  • Be brief.
  • Be careful with humor and sarcasm. They don't convey well.
  • Double-check follow-up newsgroups and their distribution.
  • Be careful about copyrights and licenses.
  • Cite appropriate references.
  • Don't overdo signatures.
  • Only post a message once.
  • Your postings reflect upon you; be proud of them.
  • Have fun out there.
