Career Development

The Feinberg School of Medicine supports a career development program for all M1 through M4 students. This program allows students to participate in the AAMC Careers in Medicine (CiM) program, which is a Web-based medical student career planning site. In addition to the CiM program, we provide career courses and seminars as well as a comprehensive advising program.

Beginning in the M1 and M2 years, students can learn about medical specialty careers by attending specialty interest group programs, attending brown bag lunches introducing physicians from a variety of specialties, or attending grand rounds through the Northwestern Memorial Healthcare System.

M3 students are introduced to a comprehensive systematic approach to the processing of specialty information during the year-long Interdisciplinary Medicine (IDM) course.

Residency Application Process

During the fourth year, there are multiple class sessions to discuss the application process. Also, there’s a great deal of information posted here on our website to guide you.

There are several types of Application Services and Match Services. The systems you will use are determined by the specialty to which you are applying.

You might have to use more than one type of application or match system.
