How to Register for Step 2

Go to the following site to register and pay for your
*electronic* permit. Request your USMLE ID# at the site
if you don't remember it. Or look on your Step 1 score report
There is a ~4 day delay as your name is electronically sent
to FSM for verification of enrollment. Good news is that
if you succesfully got a permit for Step 1, you shouldn't
need to redo the whole picture thing!

Remember, deadlines to graduate in May 2009 are as follows:

Step 2 CS - ??? (last year it was February 23)
Step 2 CK - ?? (last year it was February 29)

How to Register for Step 1:
  1. Go to http://www.nbme.org/programs-services/medical-students/index.html to begin the registration process. This link will open in a new window for your convenience
  2. fill out the forms required online. check spelling of your name and make sure it matches your ID exactly.
  3. select your preference for a time block. Most people do May-July.
  4. fee for the 2006 Step 1 is $455 and is payable via MC/Visa or Check only. no discover or amex.
  5. Get a passport photo taken if you don't have one handy. Walgreens will take one for $7 and will give it to you on the spot.
  6. Physically attach the photo to the "ID Certification" form the NMBE site makes you print out.
  7. Bring your "ID Certification" form to OME/ 3rd Floor Ward. Fill out half green document request form in the carousel to the left of the entrance.
  8. Drop both documents (ID cert form +green sheet) off with Mary Rachuy who is the Program Assistant in Registrar and Records Office (Ward 3-130)
  9. You can either include a preaddressed/stamped envelope and Mary can mail it for you; or you can go pick it up and mail it yourself. Turnaround time is 1-3 business days from the OME side of things.
  10. once NMBE/USMLE has received EVERYTHING (payment, application and ID certification form) -- they will mail you a SCHEDULING PERMIT. It's bright orange colored.
  11. With the scheduling permit, you can then schedule a specific date with Prometric to take boards.
