CS RequirementsSite Visits and H&P'sWHAT needs to be turned in: 1) Each SIGNED site visit goal (13 in total by the end of the year) 2) Site visit “write-ups”; each visit you have been instructed to do a write up on 1 patient that you saw, and email/turn into your preceptor for feedback.. I ALSO GET A COPY of that write up. (so I should have copies of 13 write ups by the end of the year for each of you) 3) 5 inpatient hospital H&P’s (first 2 due to me before winter break and last 3 due to me by the end of the year) WHERE to turn in: 1) There is a basket marked “M2 Clinical skills turn in” in the CEC charting area near the exam rooms 2) There is a basket on my desk marked “M2 Clinical Skills turn in” in the AWOME office Ward 1st floor 1-003 Weekend RoundingYou will have the opportunity to spend one weekend morning rounding with an Internal Medicine team. The goals of this feature of the course are to make you more comfortable interacting with seriously ill hospitalized patients, help you find your first hospitalized patient for a full history and physical, and give you a preview of what you'll be doing in your M3 year. Ø This opportunity is MANDATORY(at least once). Students have told us that they felt anxious, nervous as well as excited when they saw their first hospitalized patients on their own. We hope that spending a weekend morning rounding with a NMH Medicine Ward team will help allay these anxieties. You will have the opportunity to observe a medicine attending, medicine resident and M3 (and/or M4) students interviewing and examining hospitalized patients. Ø We would also like you to ask the members of your team to help you find one hospitalized patient for you to interview and examine. Ø You should plan to do a full history and physical exam (to the extent you are able), write this up and give to your longitudinal preceptor for comments and suggestions. This is an opportunity to synthesize and apply what you have learned in your Communication and Physical Examination courses from first year as well as what you are learning in the didactic sessions and from your outpatient preceptor this year. Ø This experience will help prepare you for going to see hospitalized patients on your own. Each weekend morning(Saturday or Sunday) beginning weekend of October 3rd and 4th, up to twenty students will be able to sign up to go with a ward team in pairs. Signing up has been made easy for you. There will be a green binder in the CEC, next to the M2 CS turn in basket, where you will find each weekend morning listed with the name and pager number of the attending of your team. A maximum of 2 students can sign up with each attending.. PLEASE NOTE: it is your responsibility to page the attending the week BEFORE between 8 am-6 pm to find out the time and location that you should meet the team. Each team will start and finish rounds at different times, but expect to meet your team between 6:30 to 8:30 am. After your team has rounded, as a pair you will do a History and Physical on one of the patients that your team rounded on that morning. **Your interview and exam may take 1-2 hours. **If you have any questions regarding this please contact Dr. John Butter at jbutter@nmff.org, Dr. Stevie Mazyck at smazyck@nmff.org or Allison Hammer at a-hammer@northwestern.edu. ***Instructions on paging: Dial the pager number and then follow the prompts to enter a call-back number using the keys on your phone. <- Back |
