SGS Presentation Guidelines

The following guidelines have been generated by past SBM students:

  1. If you do not regularly attend SGS, please attend at least 1 class before you present in order to understand the quality of presentation expected.
  2. Do not simply read the cases, but provide insight!
  3. Present as though your peers have never heard of the disease previously.
  4. Include/review the normal values (CBC, chem 7, etc.) and explain where the abnormalities in the cases lie.
  5. Please insert normal histo/anatomy/etc. slides for comparison so that the pathologies are clearer.
  6. Provide a summary (in the power point and orally) for each case, highlighting the major “take home points” for each disease.
  7. It is not necessary to go through each of the questions, therefore the presenter may highlight the “pertinent” questions.
  8. All power points, with the additional slides inserted by the presenter, will be posted online and will be accessible for the group members.
  9. Quality is more important than quantity. There is no time requirement for how long a presentation should be but we just expect the power point to be of high quality.
