Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association at Northwestern University Medical School strives to serve the student body in four different capacities: cultural, social, educational, and philanthropical. The services are especially focused for Asian American medical students, providing an avenue where Asian American issues and concerns may be addressed. From the cultural aspect, the organization plans an International Film Festival and annual celebrations for special holidays, such as the Lunar New Year or the Moon Festival; from the social perspective, APAMSA organizes outings to Asian American Jazz Festival, Dim Sum Runs to Chinatown, and periodic gatherings for Asian American medical students; from the educational perspective, APAMSA invites speakers to Northwestern to discuss Asian American related medical issues and assists the Immigrant/Refugee Area Health Education Center in a Mentorship Program for high school students; from the philanthropical perspective, APAMSA organizes an annual bone marrow drive and assists in flu shot immunization.
Although these examples describe a fair amount of the organization's activity, APAMSA continues to tailor existing projects as well as creating new ones according to the current expectations and needs of the Asian American medical students. Members of APAMSA are dedicated to both local and national medical issues in the Asian American community.
