Library to Check IDs for Entry Beginning May 4

This article was featured in Library Notes #51 (April 2009).

The safety and security of Galter Library users and staff are of paramount importance. In the light of recent thefts and unauthorized access by non-affiliated users, the library will be implementing a program of checking IDs starting Monday May 4. All entering users will be required to show an NU or NU-affiliated hospital ID to the staff member behind the front desk. Because the library is not open to the public, anyone not affiliated with NU will be required to demonstrate why they need access to the library. One-time or occasional use of the Galter collections and facilities may be permitted for particular reference or research purposes, but only with prior approval.

We ask that you cooperate with library staff to facilitate the smooth implementation of these new procedures. Get in the habit of wearing your NU ID and displaying it prominently to library staff as you enter. If you don’t show your ID or you don’t have it with you, you will be required to fill out a guest application form and obtain a guest badge from the front desk library staff each time you visit the library. There are no exceptions to this policy, so avoid access delays by showing your NU ID!

If you have any questions or concerns about our access policy, please contact Kurt Munson, Head, User Services at 312-503-6898.
